Well said, David. I value Medium as a platform for writing what I enjoy writing about and also because I enjoy reading articles by writers who are passionate about a topic that interests me. I’m fortunate in that I use Medium as a tool to stay in the game and keep my skills sharp, not to make money. My professional writing career is pretty much behind me, unlike a lot of others who would like to profit from their writing on this platform.

While I understand and empathize with them, I can tell you that if you love to write and you are a competent writer, you will do well to look elsewhere for compensation that is meaningful. If, on the other hand, you want to have virtually unlimited freedom to write what you want, get others who love to write to follow and interact with you, and recognize that you may be fortunate enough to generate a bit of money without making that your primary objective, then you should find Medium to be a good fit.
