The Diana-Elizabeth relationship was surely filled with complexity. Diana may have appeared to be a great fit for Charles, but she wasn’t prepared for either his dalliance or the enormous pressure of being a very public figure. Obviously the Queen, as a strong and somewhat cold royal, was ill equipped to deal with Diana’s emotional state. Looking back, the marriage to Charles was doomed from the start, and perhaps Queen Elizabeth realized it but didn’t want to admit it.
