Thanks for setting the record straight about the Marlboro Man. As a retired marketing guy, I can tell you that looks are everything for ad campaigns. The background of the person chosen -- and whether or not the person uses the product -- rarely matters. A somewhat similar famous story involves the "Native American" who was photographed crying a tear for the litter trashing the country in a "Keep America Beautiful" campaign that started in 1971. Turns out he was of Italian origin and the tear was glycerin!
