I can relate to what you have identified. I think you are describing what I would call “creative juices flowing syndrome.” I don’t mean that in a bad way. Writers (and other creatives) who are driven are just that… driven…. and that notion does seem at odds with the commonly accepted definition of mindfulness. Is having itchy fingers a writer’s curse if he/she is immersed and enjoying every moment, even if it may be writing that is breathlessly frenetic or deadline-driven? No. It’s simply that we must write. Maybe it is “mindfulness” that needs to be redefined to fit the writing life.
