Great story. Hidden between the lines, of course, is the fact that systemic racism played a key role in early rock 'n' roll. Not only did white artists appropriate songs that were originally hits recorded by Blacks, but it was common practice to find ways around fairly paying Black performing artists and songwriters for their performances and work.
