Great article, Arthur. You definitely showed why covers continue to be popular -- and why a hit song has legs beyond the original artist. While I truly appreciate differently executed covers (like the crazy, creative Vanilla Fudge version you cite), it is always difficult for me to veer from the original version. In my view, nobody can one-up a Motown artist or The Beatles!
