Always good to have data like this, even if it is subjective. So much of advances can be based on a writer’s previous success or the buzz surrounding a book because of some other notoriety. It’s also important to understand the relationship of advances to royalties, which are obviously a percentage of book sales after expenses are deducted. This makes a huge difference for authors whose books sell in huge numbers.
