All excellent points. I think I would add that the two party system should be eliminated because it has increased polarization dramatically. The whole concept of just two parties has proven to be dysfunctional and plays to the worst instincts of politicians. Individuals who don’t fit the party mold are marginalized and moderates or centrists are overrun. As one historical example, I remember a time when such Republicans as New York’s Jacob Javits and Nelson Rockefeller could stand as moderate and even liberal leaning Republicans and still be elected. We have moved far away from that possibility with today’s extremes in both parties. It’s time to somehow cross the hard left/hard right chasm. If we can’t reform the two party system, ranked voting may be the next best alternative.
